Open the New Testament to Jude, verse 14. He quotes a prophecy of Enoch by name, word for word, as Scripture. The book he is quoting is not in most Bibles today.
That was normal. The first Christians read from a far wider library than the 66 books on a modern shelf. Enoch, Jubilees, and others were copied, taught, and cited by the men who built the early church.
Even the King James Bible of 1611 was larger than yours. It carried roughly 80 books, with the additional texts printed between the Old and New Testaments. For over two centuries, English-speaking Christians read them as part of the Bible
Nothing Was Hidden. It Was Simply Stopped Being Printed.
There is no secret here, and no villain. What happened was slower and more ordinary than that.
During the Reformation, the additional books were moved out of the main text and set apart under the heading "Apocrypha." Still bound in. Still read. Just separated.
The decisive moment came in 1826, when the British and Foreign Bible Society resolved to stop funding Bibles that included them. Printing followed the money. Within a generation, most English Bibles were 66 books, and most readers never learned there had been more.
One church never made that change. Through all of it, the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church went on copying the full canon by hand in Ge'ez, as it had for well over a thousand years.

A shepherd near the Dead Sea found clay jars in a cave. Inside were the oldest biblical manuscripts ever recovered, some more than two thousand years old.
Among them were fragments of Enoch, in the original Aramaic. And Jubilees, in more copies than almost any other text at the site. These were not medieval inventions or late additions. They were being read, copied, and treasured before the New Testament was written.
The scrolls cannot settle which books belong in a canon. That is a question for the church, not the sand. What they settle is age. These books are as old as the tradition itself, and Ethiopia was still reading them while the rest of the world forgot.
